17. Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in Canada

Today, there are an estimated 564,000 Canadians living with dementia.

By 2031, this number is expected to rise to 937,000 with health-care system and out-of-pocket caregiver costs estimated at $16.6 billion per year.

There is no way to prevent Alzheimer's disease, although growing evidence suggests that you can reduce your risk by staying socially and mentally active, adopting a healthy lifestyle and protecting your head from injury.

At the Alzheimer Society, our vision is a world without Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Help us achieve that vision and continue to provide Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow...®
